Elephant Foot Yam Roast Recipe / Chenai Kizhangu Varuval Recipe

Hello everyone!
                     Today's recipe is Elephant Foot Yam Roast. Its a simple recipe and very easy to make this roast.Children love to eat . We may consume this edible tuber once in a week as it has so many health benefits.
Health benefits:
  • Elephant Foot Yam has a cooling effect on the body,so it suits  people with hyper tension, piles and constipation.
  • It is considered as low fat food . So it can be consumed with out any fear of weight gain.
  • It prevents blood from clotting.
  • It is rich in omega 3 fatty acids which is good for increasing the cholesterol level in the blood.
  • It helps in increasing the estrogen level in women's bodies which is useful for maintaining the hormonal balance.


 Ingredients:
  • Elephant foot yam 500g
  • Turmeric powder 1 tsp
  • Red chilli powder 2 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander powder 2 1/2 tsp
  • Garlic paste 1 tsp
  • Oil for frying
  • Salt to taste
Preparation:
  • Peel off the skin of the Elephant Foot Yam, wash and cut it into square pieces as shown in the picture.
 Method:
  • Add turmeric powder and sufficient water and bring it to boil.
  • Reduce the flame to low flame and cook the Elephant Foot Yam pieces for twenty minutes.
  • Make a smooth paste with the red chilli powder, coriander powder, garlic paste and salt by adding water.
  • Coat the Elephant Foot Yam pieces with this spice paste.
  • Roast the Elephant foot Yam pieces using a tawa or a pan. Sprinkle some oil around the pieces.
  • Once it is cooked, flip the other side and sprinkle some oil around it again.
  • Roast it for five minutes each side in a low flame.
  • Now the tasty and spicy Elephant Foot Yam Roast is ready to serve.
Goes well with:
  • Elephant Foot Yam roast is the best side for sambar rice, rasam rice, curd rice, lemon rice, puliyodharai, coconut rice etc.
Notes:
  • We may pressure cook the Elephant Foot Yam pieces. But  we shouldn't over cook it.
  • We may add maslas as per our wish.
  • Instead of roasting on a pan, we may deep fry the Elephant Foot Yam pieces.
