PidiKarunai kizhangu tamarind gravy (Yam ordinary gravy)

Hi friends,
                Today we are going to check about the traditional recipe made of  Pidi karunai. Pidi karunai kulambu is my Dad's favourite recipe.        .





 Ingredients:
  • 250g of pidi karunai (Yam ordinary)
  • Lemon sized tamarind
  • 100 g of cooking oil
  • 1/2 tsp of mustard seed
  • 1/2 tsp of split black gram
  • 4 onions (medium size)
  • 4 tomatoes
  • 2 tsp of red chilly powder
  • 2 tsp of coriander powder
  • 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder
  • salt


Method:
  • Boil, peel off and smash the yams and set aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan .
  • Add mustard seed and split black gram and wait till it crackles.
  • Fry the chopped onions to golden brown.
  • Add tomatoes , turmeric powder and salt and cook them for five minutes.
  • Once the tomatoes become soft, add the smashed yam and saute it for two to three minutes.
  • Add extract from the tamarind, red chilly powder and coriander powder.
  • Add sufficient water and wait till it reaches the boiling stage then reduce the flame.
  • Cook the gravy for another fifteen minutes.
  • Now the pidi karunai kizhangu tamarind gravy is ready to serve.
Serve with:
  •  It goes well with rice, chapathi,dosa and idli.
