Today we are going to check about the traditional recipe made of Pidi karunai. Pidi karunai kulambu is my Dad's favourite recipe. .

Today we are going to check about the traditional recipe made of Pidi karunai. Pidi karunai kulambu is my Dad's favourite recipe. .
Ingredients:
- 250g of pidi karunai (Yam ordinary)
- Lemon sized tamarind
- 100 g of cooking oil
- 1/2 tsp of mustard seed
- 1/2 tsp of split black gram
- 4 onions (medium size)
- 4 tomatoes
- 2 tsp of red chilly powder
- 2 tsp of coriander powder
- 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder
- salt
Method:
- Boil, peel off and smash the yams and set aside.
- Heat oil in a pan .
- Add mustard seed and split black gram and wait till it crackles.
- Fry the chopped onions to golden brown.
- Add tomatoes , turmeric powder and salt and cook them for five minutes.
- Once the tomatoes become soft, add the smashed yam and saute it for two to three minutes.
- Add extract from the tamarind, red chilly powder and coriander powder.
- Add sufficient water and wait till it reaches the boiling stage then reduce the flame.
- Cook the gravy for another fifteen minutes.
- Now the pidi karunai kizhangu tamarind gravy is ready to serve.
- It goes well with rice, chapathi,dosa and idli.
