Ragi Dosa Recipe / Kelvaragu Dosai Recipe

Hello foodies,
Ragi / Kelvaragu is the staple food of many villages in south India. This is the secret of their healthy life. They consume it in the form of kanji / porridge or ragi balls. Today I tried ragi dosa. It came out well. Because of its health benefits, I want to share with you.

Health benefits of Ragi / Kelvaragu:
  • Ragi is rich in calcium.
  • Its a good source of fiber and lower the cholesterol level.
  • Its the best food for diabetes, weight control and makes our body cool.
Do you like to give all these benefits to your family members? Then add Ragi / Kelvaragu in your diet  as far as possible. Let see how to make Ragi / Kelvaragu Dosa.

Preparation time: 5 min
Resting time: 30 min
Cooking time: 15 min
Yield: 12 dosas

Ingredients:
  • Ragi powder 250g
  • Onion 2
  • Green chillies 3
  • Few curry leaves
  • Oil
  • Mustard seed 1tsp
  • Salt to taste
Preparation:
  • Chop the onions and  the green chillies .
  • Heat three teaspoon of oil in a pan, add the mustard seed, curry leaves and wait till it splutters.
  • Then add the chopped onions and fry them to golden brown .
  • Take a mixing bowl, add the ragi powder, fried onions and salt. Mix them well.
  • Add water and stir them continuously till you get the dosa batter consistency.
  • Let it rest for thirty minutes. If there is no time, we may prepare the dosas at once . You will get the same tasty dosas..

Method:
  • Heat the tawa and reduce the flame to the medium level.
  • Take a ladle of batter and pour it on the surface of the tawa.
  • Do circular motion over the batter, to get the round shape of dosa.
  • I made small sized dosas. So that children love to eat because of its shape.. So you may make dosa in any shape.
  • Take a teaspoon of oil and pour it around the dosas.
  • Wait till one side of the dosa cooked well. If it cooked well, the colour of the dosa will change.
  • Then we have to flip the dosa .Leave it for three minutes.
  • Now remove the dosa from the tawa.
  • In the same way make dosas out of the remaining batter.
  • Now the tasty and healthy Ragi / Kelvaragu Dosai is all ready to serve.

Serve With :
  • Ragi / Kelvaragu Dosai can be served with coconut chutney, tomato chutney, Kara chutney or any sauce of your choice.
Notes:
  • Adjust the number of green chillies as per your taste.
  •  We may add the chopped onions without frying in the oil also.
  • We may add curd also to get sour taste.
Happy cooking! Eat healthy food!!
