Vendhaya Kuzhambu [Fenugreek Gravy]

Today are we are going to check the recipe of traditional vendhaya kuzhambu. Fenugreek is used to cure Diabetes. It keeps our body cool. Thats why our ansesters ate fenugreek during summers. Fenugreek gives a pleasent smell to this gravy.. Let's start our recipe; come join me!

Vendhaya kuzhambu [Fenugreek Gravy]


Ingredients :
  • 1 teaspoon of fenugreek
  • 1/2 teaspoon of mustard seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon of split black gram
  • 20 cloves of garlic
  • 1 tablespoon of oil
  • 6 tomatoes
  • 6 onions
  • lemon sized tamarind
  • 2 teaspoon of red chilly powder
  • 2 teaspoon of coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder
  • curry leaves
  • coriander leaves
  • salt as you need

Procedure:
  • Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Wait till they crack. Add split black gram and fenugreek. Fry them till the mixture becomes golden brown and add curry leaves.
  • Fry chopped onions and garlic till it becomes golden brown and add chopped tomatoes, salt and turmeric powder to the sauting mixture.
  • Extract of tamarind should be added in this step. Then add red chilly powder, coriander powder and salt. Wait till the kuzhambu comes to a boil. Leave it for 15 minutes in reduced flame. Garnish it with coriander leaves or as you wish. Our Vendhaya Kuzhambu is all ready to eat!
Serve with:
                                It can be served with combinations of rice, idli and dosa. The specialty of this recipe is that it tastes very good in the next day so you can store it in fridge for a day to get a delicious meal.
Note:  This kuzhambu is good for health so you can prepare it every week. So that you can keep your family healthy. The recipe will turn out more delicious if you use small onions. It is always advisable that we use gingelly oil for any kuzhambu as it adds taste and health to the recipe.
